Anbernic RG556 launches new gaming handheld competitor for $174.99

Today we’re talking about Anbernic which has just launched the Anbernic RG556, a relatively powerful gaming handheld that competes with the Retroid Pocket 4. Launching with Android 13 for $174.99, the Anbernic RG556 features hall-effect triggers and joysticks, along with a six-axis gyroscope.

A week after revealing the performance levels of PS2 emulation and Android games, Anbernic has now confirmed full launch details for the RG556. As expected, Anbernic sells the RG556 in multiple color options. However, it chose not to launch the device in the glossy white color that was leaked late last month.

Additionally, Anbernic includes Hall Effect triggers, a Hall Effect joystick, and a six-axis gyroscope, all in a package with dimensions of 223 x 90 x 15 mm and a weight of 331 grams. In other words, the RG556 will compete with the Retroid Pocket 4 in many respects. However, the Pocket 4 may be a bit more powerful than Anbernick’s portable gaming consoles, despite its smaller size.

Furthermore, the RG556 runs Android 13 natively but has only one USB Type-C port for charging and connecting to external displays using the DisplayPort Alt Mode protocol. The Anbernic RG556 starts at $174.99 and goes up to $204.99 in $15 increments when you add a MicroSD card.
